SALINA, KS (July 31, 2025) β Salina Regional Health Center has been recertified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality stroke care to the region.
The recertification follows a comprehensive evaluation process and serves as a validation of the hospitalβs ongoing efforts to improve stroke response and treatment protocols. Salina Regional was first certified as a Primary Stroke Center in 2017 after establishing a dedicated stroke response team available 24/7 to respond immediately when a stroke is suspected. Emergency responders can activate the team en route, ensuring patients are met with coordinated care upon arrival.
A key component of Primary Stroke Center certification involves fostering a culture of continuous performance improvement. All stroke-related responses are closely monitored, analyzed, and reviewed to ensure protocols meet or exceed national standards.
βThis achievement takes tremendous teamwork from people all throughout our health care delivery system,β said Joel Phelps, President and CEO of Salina Regional Health Center. βOur efforts are aimed at providing stroke patients with excellent, emergent care. These latest advancements have been proven to improve patient outcomes.β
Public awareness of stroke symptoms plays a crucial role in early intervention. The acronym BE-FAST is commonly used to help individuals recognize signs of stroke:
- Balance issues
- Eyesight changes
- Facial drooping
- Arm weakness
- Speech difficulties
- Time to call emergency services
Recognizing these symptoms and acting quickly can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients.
