Salina, KS (May 14, 2025)
The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has awarded Salina Regional Health Center with Heart Failure Reaccreditation, recognizing its demonstrated expertise and commitment to treating patients with heart failure. The designation follows a rigorous onsite evaluation of the hospital’s ability to assess, diagnose, and manage heart failure across all phases of care — from pre-hospital and early stabilization to acute and transitional care.
Heart failure is a chronic, progressive condition in which the heart is unable to pump sufficient blood to meet the body’s needs. Hospitals using evidence-based, protocol-driven approaches have shown significant improvement in time-to-treatment, risk identification, and reducing hospital readmissions and length of stay.
“Salina Regional Health Center has demonstrated its commitment to providing north central Kansas with excellent heart care,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, Chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Salina Regional Health Center with Heart Failure Accreditation.”
“We are so proud of our team of caregivers,” said Joel Phelps, President and CEO of Salina Regional Health Center. “With an aging population in our region, this reaccreditation confirms that we have the processes in place to meet the latest standards for a disease that can be so detrimental to patients. These efforts enhance our level of care and make an impactful difference in cardiovascular care for the region.”
To earn this designation, Salina Regional participated in a multi-step process that included:
- A comprehensive gap analysis
- Evaluation of care variations
- Development of targeted action plans
- A rigorous onsite review
- Ongoing monitoring to ensure sustained success
This structured approach promotes best practices and ensures care teams are equipped with up-to-date guidelines and standards to improve outcomes for heart failure patients. Accreditation recognizes hospitals that meet or exceed strict clinical criteria and have organized multidisciplinary teams committed to enhancing patient education, disease management, and long-term health outcomes.
