On Monday, October 30, at 2:43 a.m., an SPD officer reportedly observed a blue Honda Accord in the 1100 block of N 9th Street. The vehicle appeared to not have a license plate. The officer initiated a traffic stop, to which the vehicle fled, heading north on N 9th Street, then eastbound on Interstate 70. The pursuit continued until the vehicle exited at Niles Rd, ultimately leading law enforcement to the 3800 block of S Niles, through a field and over county roads. The vehicle's journey took it out of Saline County, where Dickinson County officers made an attempt to deploy spike strips. Evading these measures, the suspect vehicle ventured into oncoming traffic, forcing Saline County officers to call off the chase. Dickinson County officers continued, ultimately bringing the vehicle to a halt at mile marker 272.

Inside the vehicle, officers allegedly discovered a bag of methamphetamine and a pipe. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Skyler McKay, was arrested on the following requested charges:

  • Felony flee and elude
  • Felony interference with law enforcement
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to stop at an accident
  • No registration
  • No proof of insurance
  • Two counts of failure to stop at a stop sign
  • Improper signal
