High-Speed Vehicle Pursuit in East Salina

On Monday, July 17 at approximately 11:28 pm, an officer in the 1500 block of E Crawford allegedly observed two vehicles racing westbound on Crawford. The alleged involved cars, a 2009 red Cadillac CTS and a 2011 Subaru Legacy, were clocked at 85 mph in a 40 mph zone.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, but only one of the alleged vehicles complied and pulled into a nearby McDonald's. The second vehicle allegedly continued on, leading the officer on a high-speed pursuit through various neighborhoods south of Ohio and Crawford. The speeds allegedly reached up to 75 mph as the vehicle navigated residential areas.

Eventually, the chase came to a halt when the Cadillac allegedly parked in front of a residence in the 600 block of Albert. The driver, identified as a 17-year-old male, allegedly fled on foot to the backyard of a house, prompting chase. The passenger in the car, a 17-year-old female, allegedly identified the driver. The alleged driver is believed to live at the house where the vehicle stopped.

Despite a thorough search, officers were unable to locate the driver. SPD has requested charges of felony flee and elude, aggravated child endangerment, racing on highways, reckless driving, and traffic violations including speeding, stop sign violations, no turn signals and no proof of insurance.
