On August 23rd, at 12:46 am, a vehicle pursuit began in central Salina as an officer attempted to pull over a gray Ford Focus in the 700 block of Highland Ave. The sequence of events began when the officer attempted a traffic stop for a defective tag light. The vehicle slowed and came to a stop. However, the gray Ford Focus rapidly accelerated, evading the stop and fleeing the scene.
The pursuit spanned several blocks, with the vehicle darting from Highland to Bond, then onto 4th, Ellsworth, and E Cloud. The pursuit reached speeds of 65 mph during the three-minute pursuit. The officer made the decision to discontinue the pursuit after losing visual contact with the vehicle.
