The Tammy Walker Cancer Center in Salina is offering free skin and prostate cancer screenings on Saturday, October 12 and 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. These screenings will take place at the center located at 511 S. Santa Fe Ave. Space is limited, and appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call Daniel Craig, Cancer Outreach Coordinator, at (785) 452-4848.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in both men and women. Anyone noticing unusual moles or skin changes should get checked. Prostate cancer, the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men, will also be screened for men ages 55 to 69. The prostate screening includes a PSA blood test and physical exam, with consultations available prior to the test.
Both screenings are held in partnership with the Salina Masonic Lodge No. 60, the Masonic Cancer Alliance, and the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Early detection of both cancers is critical for effective treatment. Registration is required for the screenings.
