Early Morning Joyride Ends for Teen

In the early hours of Tuesday, December 5, at 4:39 am, a Sheriff's Deputy in the 200 block of S Broadway clocked a 2009 Chevy Aveo allegedly speeding at 59 mph in a 40 mph zone. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop, prompting the driver to slam on the brakes in an attempt to turn right onto South for a westbound direction. However, the driver lost control, careening over the corner and into the Atwoods parking lot, reportedly damaging a telephone junction box, an Atwoods hiring sign, and a dog crate belonging to Atwoods.

In an effort to regain control, the driver spun out in the parking lot before finally parking the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Subsequently, SPD located the individual, revealing him to be a 13-year-old male from rural Assaria who had allegedly taken his parents' vehicle without permission. The teenager is now facing requested charges that include interference with law enforcement, operating a motor vehicle without a license, possession of cigarettes, and speeding.
