Wood Burning Furnace Causes Early Morning Rural Fire

At 5:02am on Tuesday, Salina Rural Fire District #5 was sent to the 2700 block of S. Holmes for the report of a house on fire.

The residents woke up to smoke in their house. Saline County Sheriff reports that there was a wood burning furnace outside of the home and ducted into the house. Near the area where the wood burner was on the outside, the siding caught fire and spread to window, and into the home.

The occupants tried to put the fire out, but ended up calling the Fire Department, which was able to put out the blaze. Most of the damage was due to smoke, with smoke and fire damage inside.

Damage from the fire is estimated at $15,000.
