KWU Women’s Volleyball top Spires in four sets for 10th straight win

Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball picked up its 10th straight win as the Coyotes topped the Saint Mary Spires in four sets on Saturday at Ryan Field House.

The Coyotes improved to 16-7 overall and 5-0 in the KCAC with the 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18 win.

Wesleyan trailed 12-11 in the first set, but the Coyotes outscored Saint Mary 7-2 over the next nine points to take an 18-14 lead on Kylee Harris' kill. KWU led 23-17 before USM scored three in a row before the Coyotes closed the set with the last two points.

KWU trailed 9-3 in the second set but were able to draw back even at 15-all and pushed out to a 20-18 lead. Three straight from Saint Mary gave the Spires the lead. KWU tied it again at 22-all, but two in a row by Saint Mary gave the Spires set point and we able to win the set.

The third set was back and forth the whole way. KWU trailed 16-13 then scored the next four to lead 17-16. USM led 20-19 when the Coyotes scored five of the next six to take a 24-21 lead. Saint Mary scored, but the Coyotes got the set win.

KWU had the lead in the final set, but Saint Mary was withing two at 18-16 before the Coyotes pushed out to a 22-17 lead on a block by Sarah Girard. KWU led 22-18 when the Coyotes scored the final three points to clinch the match.

Kylee Harris had a breakout game for the Coyotes with 25 kills, while Rylee Serpan had 20. Josie Deckinger handed out 49 assists and had 13 digs. Kelcey Hund had 27 digs. Sarah Girard had five blocks in the match.

The Coyotes are back at home twice next week, hosting Doane on Wednesday and Avila on Friday.
