A 53-year-old woman was arrested following an alleged assault on her house cleaner of the apartments at 245 South Eighth Street, the former Roosevelt Lincoln school building in Salina.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when Patania Sumners allegedly attacked a 39-year-old female cleaning worker after becoming upset about items being moved in her bathroom. The victim, whose name has not been released, was reportedly dragged by her hair into the bathroom where she was struck multiple times in the face and had an earring torn out during the struggle.
The victim managed to escape with minor injuries, including scrapes and scratches, and was evaluated by emergency medical services at the scene.
Sumners, who reportedly called authorities herself claiming she wanted the victim removed from the premises, was taken into custody. She was arrested on charges of aggravated kidnapping and battery.
While questions were raised about Sumners' mental state during the incident, authorities indicated that she appeared aware of her surroundings and actions at the time of the altercation. The victim was performing routine cleaning duties at the residence when the incident occurred.
