Salina's Senior Services is appealing to the community for dedicated volunteers to help deliver Meals On Wheels to our homebound seniors. They provide nutritious meals to seniors from Monday to Friday, and their Meals On Wheels program, located at the Senior Center, boasts a fully equipped kitchen that prepares well-balanced meals. This vital initiative ensures that seniors not only receive nourishment but also enjoy the company of familiar faces through friendly conversations with volunteers and staff members. Additionally, they offer hot meals in their dining room, emphasizing the importance of socialization in maintaining a strong connection to society.

Since its establishment in 1970, Meals On Wheels in Salina has grown significantly. Initially delivering only 12 meals per day, there are now have 18 routes serving approximately 278 meals. Due to the increased demand, they require additional volunteers as some routes have become too extensive. By splitting them into two, the aim is to make the delivery process more manageable for their dedicated volunteers.

As a Meals On Wheels volunteer, you will deliver meals on a rotation schedule, covering one week every six weeks. Alternatively, you can sign up as a substitute and fill in whenever needed. If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of homebound seniors, you are encouraged to get involved. Please reach out to Kathy Diaz-Dunn, the Meals On Wheels Coordinator, at 785/823-7555 or visit the Senior Center located at 245 North Ninth Street.

The Senior Center also offers an array of other services and activities to enhance the well-being of seniors. Dedicated volunteers conduct daily exercise classes, including senior yoga, arthritis strength fitness, and Tai Chi for breathing. They also provide various classes and group activities such as art, woodcarving, pool playing, computer lessons, sewing, crochet, and knitting. They are always open to considering new class offerings based on the interests and requests of the community.

Join the Senior Center in making a positive impact in the lives of Salina's seniors by becoming a Meals On Wheels volunteer. Together, we can make a difference in our community and create lasting connections.
