VIDEO: Hanks Tavern Burglarized After Business Door Left Unlocked, 2 Arrested
Two suspects were arrested in connection with a west Salina burglary that occurred on Tuesday, April 18, at Hanks Tavern.
Captain Forrester says that the alleged burglary occurred at 116 S Broadway. Officers were dispatched on Tuesday evening for a reported theft. An employee reported that they had left for the afternoon and forgot to lock the front door. Video inside the bar shows that at 2:30 pm, a white female and Hispanic male allegedly enter the business. After several minutes of realizing that no one is in the bar, the female can allegedly be seen removing items from being the bar to include:
- A beer
- VTech cell phone
- Bank bag filled with cash
The suspects can allegedly be seen leaving approximately 30 minutes later in a gold GMC Yukon with some distinguishing features.
At 10:40 pm, an officer in the 1800 block of N 9th allegedly observed a Yukon matching the description from earlier. Contact was made with a male subject who allegedly matched the description from the video at the bar, who was identified as 36-year-old Joseph Vela of Salina. Mr Vela identified the female he was with as 46-year-old Julie Capps, also of Salina. Officers located Ms Capps, who was allegedly wearing the same shoes as seen in the bar video. She was also allegedly in possession of a marijuana pipe.
Ms Capps was arrested on the following requested charges:
- Burglary
- Theft
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Mr Vela was arrested on the requested charge of:
- Burglary
