UPDATE: Virginia Man Dies in Late Night Interstate Crash

UPDATE: The Kansas Highway Patrol worked a fatality crash on Sunday, March 10 in Saline County.

The KHP report indicates that the crash occurred at 11:41 pm, on Westbound I-70 at mile marker 240, or 12 miles West of Salina. A 2012 Toyota Camry was Eastbound on I-70, while a 2011 Volvo Tractor was Westbound on I-70. The Toyota, driven by a 42-year-old Roanoke, Virginia man, crossed the center median and struck Volvo, driven by a 33-year-old Chicago, Illinois man. The Toyota became disabled on the inside shoulder of the Westbound lane and the Volvo became disabled in the North ditch of I-70.

The driver of the Toyota suffered fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Volvo had suspected minor injuries, as well as his 28-year-old male passenger from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Both were properly restrained.


Update: I-70 is now reopened following a fatality crash near marker 240 in western Saline County. Please exercise caution as first responders are still on the scene for investigation and vehicle recovery. The driving lane remains closed, but the passing lane is now open for westward travel. Drive safely.


UPDATED: Now reopened at of 7:30 am: Due to a fatality traffic crash near mile marker 240 on I-70 in Western Saline County, please reroute via 244 exit. (Hedville road) Head south to 140 Highway, then westward into Ellsworth. Return northbound on 14 highway back onto I-70 to continue westward. Exercise caution and drive safely.


ORIGINAL: At 11:40 pm on Sunday, March 10, first responders were sent to the area of mile marker 244 on I-70 in Western Saline County, for a 2-vehicle crash. A deputy on scene has begun compressions on an occupant in a vehicle found in the ditch. Westbound lanes in the area are closed while responders work the crash. KDOT is en route to close the arms at the exit to help with traffic flow.
