Salina, KS — As temperatures drop and fall leaves accumulate, Salina’s General Services staff will begin their annual curbside leaf collection program from December 2nd through January 31st, weather permitting. This service ensures a cleaner and safer environment while maintaining the city’s storm drainage systems.
To streamline the process and ensure efficient pickup, residents are asked to follow specific participant guidelines.
Participant Guidelines
- Location of Leaf Piles: Rake leaves into piles between the curb and sidewalk. If no sidewalk exists, pile leaves directly behind the curb.
- No Bags or Debris: Leaf piles must be free of bags, tree limbs, or other debris. Mixed piles will not be collected.
- Avoid Streets and Parking Areas: Do not rake or blow leaves into the street, as this can create traffic hazards and violate city code. Leaves in the street can also clog storm drains. Additionally, vehicles should not park directly in front of or behind leaf piles, as this hinders collection efforts.
- One Collection Round: Crews will make only one pass through each zone. Residents are encouraged to have their leaves ready by the first day of their scheduled collection period.
Zone Collection Schedule
- Zone 1: All streets south of Republic Avenue
Dates: December 2 – December 13 - Zone 2: Streets between Republic Avenue and Crawford Street
Dates: December 16 – January 3 - Zone 3: Streets between Crawford Street and Iron Avenue
Dates: January 6 – January 17 - Zone 4: All streets north of Iron Avenue
Dates: January 20 – January 31
Additional Notes
- Residents may call to report missed locations or request additional pickups for areas where weather conditions or late leaf deposits require another collection.
- Leaf collection is not available for alleys, private streets, or commercial properties.
By following these guidelines, Salina residents can help ensure a smooth and successful curbside leaf collection process. For questions or more information, contact Salina General Services.
