Intoxicated Driver Arrested in Saline County After 30-Mile Hit-and-Run Pursuit on I-70

A hit-and-run incident following the K-State game led to a 30-mile pursuit on I-70 westbound, ending in the arrest of an impaired driver in Saline County. At approximately 9:45 p.m., dispatch alerted Trooper Jacoby Williams of the Kansas Highway Patrol to a hit-and-run crash at milepost 290 on I-70 westbound.

The victim, who was rear-ended in a construction zone in Geary County, continued to follow the suspect's vehicle and provided dispatch with updates on their location as they traveled westbound. Trooper Williams caught up with both vehicles and managed to safely stop them at milepost 258 in Saline County.

Upon contact, it became clear that the driver of the suspect vehicle was severely impaired. The driver was so intoxicated that he had driven for 30 miles without realizing that his airbags had deployed. Further investigation revealed open beer cans in the suspect’s vehicle, and the driver admitted to consuming alcohol.

The impaired driver was arrested and transported to the county jail. Thanks to the quick response from Trooper Williams and the victim's cooperation in reporting and following the suspect, a potentially dangerous situation was prevented from escalating further.
