Scam at Flying J Swindles Two Truck Drivers

On August 1, at approximately 1:30 pm, police were dispatched to the Flying J truck stop at 2250 North Ohio Street after two truck drivers fell victim to a scam.

The first victim, a 54-year-old male from Indiana, was approached by a group of individuals who claimed they had won the lottery and wanted to share their winnings with truckers. They convinced the victim to show them his cash, promising to match it. He handed over $400, and although he got back $200, they jumped into a vehicle and fled the scene.

The second victim, a 34-year-old male from Texas, was approached with the same story. He went to an ATM and withdrew $1,300 in cash, which the scammers promptly snatched before jumping into a truck and speeding away.

The suspects fled in a four-door Chevy pickup truck. Fortunately, the police learned the vehicle's license plate number, which has been traced to a rental vehicle from Enterprise. The investigation is ongoing.
