At their recent meeting, the City of Salina Commissioners passed a resolution declaring the commercial property (former Ambassador Hotel) at 1616 West Crawford Street dangerous and unsafe. The decision came after the City of Salina Building Services Division presented extensive evidence of the property's deteriorating condition.

The structure, currently vacant, spans multiple tracts of land in the C K S Addition. City building inspectors, utilizing the Dangerous Structures Inspection Checklist in accordance with Section 31-502 of the Salina Municipal Code, identified several critical issues that pose significant safety hazards. The findings confirmed the property’s status as perilous.

The commissioners reviewed the details, including a certified mailing sent to the property owner, which contained a cover letter, the inspection checklist, and Resolution No. 24-8213. The property had been officially posted as dangerous since June 5, 2024. Despite the owner being current on taxes and assessments, the building's condition necessitated immediate action.

During the meeting, city officials outlined the steps required to address the unsafe structure. These included repairing or removing the building and establishing a reasonable timeframe for completion. The commissioners unanimously agreed that such measures were vital to protect public safety and maintain compliance with local regulations.

The resolution directs the property owner to commence and complete the necessary repairs or removal of the structure within a specified period. The Building Official emphasized the urgency of the situation and the importance of mitigating the risks posed by the compromised building.

City Commissioners expressed their commitment to ensuring community safety and the well-being of residents. The resolution marks a decisive step towards addressing hazardous properties and upholding the standards set forth in the Salina Municipal Code.

The City of Salina will continue to monitor the property at 1616 West Crawford Street, ensuring that the stipulated actions are carried out promptly and effectively. This resolution underscores the city’s dedication to maintaining a safe environment for all its citizens.
