On July 11, it was reported that an unknown male tampered with an ATM at Bank of the Plains, located at 1900 South Ohio Street, on the night of July 5 between 9:30 pm and 10:30 pm. The suspect attempted to access the machine's hard drive potentially to steal money but was unsuccessful. However, the tampering caused significant damage, estimated at $35,000, requiring the machine's replacement.
There was no cash loss and the bank does not believe any personal information was compromised. Police are reviewing video footage in hopes of identifying a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
