On June 29 at 1:20 am, a Saline County Sheriff's deputy observed a silver 2005 Ford passenger car fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Crawford Street and Custard Street. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle. As the deputy exited the vehicle to approach the driver, the driver sped off, prompting a pursuit.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed and became disabled at 10 Tenlawns Place. The driver, identified as Trenton Ponting, 25, of Salina, fled on foot. The front passenger, Monica May, 28, also of Salina, was taken into custody at the scene and arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Salina Police Department officers later located and apprehended Ponting at Crawford Street and Ninth Street. He faces multiple requested charges, including fleeing and eluding, DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failing to stop at an accident, failing to stop at a stop sign, and driving with a revoked license.
