An accident occurred on May 22 at 6:52 pm in the 600 block of South Broadway Boulevard, involving three vehicles and resulting in a fatality.
Cody Soukup, driving a black 2020 Chevy Silverado, exited Club Car Wash and attempted to make a left turn onto Broadway. Due to backed-up northbound traffic in the right lane, Soukup failed to yield and struck a 2001 Harley motorcycle driving northbound in the left lane by Steven Moore, 60, with passenger Debra Dankenbring, 64.
Moore braked and attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid the collision, causing the motorcycle to fall and slide into the center turn lane. Ultimately, the motorcycle struck the rear of a white 2000 Dodge Neon driven by Jose Silva-Collazo, who was stopped in the turn lane facing northbound, intending to turn into the Dollar General.
Moore was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the hospital. Dankenbring was severely injured but is in stable condition at Salina Regional Health Center. Neither Moore nor Dankenbring were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The incident remains under investigation.
The Salina Police Department is reminding the public to be vigilant with the increased presence of motorcycles on the roads as summer approaches.
