The skies over Salina Regional Airport came alive as the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships returned this past week, bringing together some of the best pilots in the USA and abroad. From rising talents to seasoned champions, competitors showcased precision flying across categories ranging from Primary to Unlimited, in both powered aircraft and gliders. The event placed Salina at the center of the aerobatic world, highlighting its strong aviation heritage and community support.
Pilots faced the challenge of executing complex routines that tested their skill, creativity, and endurance. Each round featured Known, Unknown, and Freestyle programs—requiring competitors to blend discipline with artistry while judges scored their execution. For those in the Advanced and Unlimited categories, strong performances meant more than medals—they opened doors to representing the U.S. on the international stage.
Hosting the championships not only showcased Salina as an aviation hub but also offered a thrilling spectacle for the community. Spectators could gather at viewing areas to witness breathtaking loops, rolls, and stalls against the Kansas sky. With the 2025 competition wrapped up, the championships once again proved to be a celebration of aviation excellence and small-town hospitality that Salina embraces for the pilots, volunteers and all others involved in the week long event.
