On July 27th at 10:05 am, a traffic accident occurred at the busy junction of I-70 and I-135. A truck traveling westbound on I-70 was merging onto southbound I-135, causing a chain reaction among the vehicles behind it.
As the truck merged, the first vehicle in the right lane slowed down to allow it to enter. However, the driver of a red 2012 Toyota Camry, Zachary Bogart, 41, of Phillipsburg, failed to notice the slowing traffic ahead. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Bogart swerved into the left lane but was quickly struck from behind by a silver 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Marvin Ballou, 64, of Minneapolis.
The collision resulted in injuries to Bogart and an 11-year-old female passenger in the Camry, both of whom were transported to Salina Regional Health Center (SRHC) for treatment. Two other passengers in the Camry were unharmed. The Hyundai Santa Fe, carrying three passengers, did not report any injuries.
