Tractor and Baler Fire on West Armstrong Road Results in Significant Loss
On July 24, at 11:12 am, emergency services were dispatched to the 12000 block of West Armstrong Road in response to a fire involving agricultural equipment. Jay Lindquist, 48, of Brookville, reported that his John Deere baler had caught fire. Despite his efforts to unhook the baler from his Fendt 712 tractor, he was unable to separate the two before the fire spread.
The incident resulted in the destruction of the baler, valued at $25,000, and the tractor, which had an estimated value of $60,000. Additionally, two bales of hay worth approximately $200 were lost in the blaze. RFD 3 (Rural Fire District 3) responded promptly and managed to extinguish the fire.
Lindquist's quick actions to attempt to save his equipment were noted, but the intensity of the fire made it impossible to prevent the extensive damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
