The Power of Y: Growing Confidence, Strength, and Opportunity

The Power of Y: Growing Confidence, Strength, and Opportunity

The Salina Family YMCA is putting an even greater focus on creating meaningful outlets for young adults, and this summer’s Youth Performance Training Camp showed just how powerful that work can be.

With more than 80 participants, the camp gave kids and teens the tools to build a strong foundation in agility, conditioning, and confidence. With God’s help, and the dedication of our Youth Sports Coordinator, Youth Sports Director, and the entire YMCA team, this camp was nothing short of a success.

And we’re just getting started.

“We see this as an opportunity,” said Chris Lehecka, YMCA CEO. “Building a foundation and understanding of agility, education, and resources with the youth is an opportunity. We’d like to expand on the success of the training clinic and include more around mental preparation and basic nutrition as they pertain to sports and wellness.”

The team is looking forward to offering this camp before each sports season, helping our youth prepare not only for the game, but for healthy habits that will serve them long after the final whistle.

At the Y, youth sports have always been about more than wins and losses, they’re about building character, confidence, and community. This camp is just another way we’re helping the next generation grow stronger, on and off the field.
