The Salina Public Schools Board of Education is set to honor long-time coach and educator Jim LoVullo by naming a tennis court at the Central High School Tennis Complex in his honor.
LoVullo, whose career spanned 36 years, played a key role in the athletic development of countless students at Salina Public Schools (SPS). His involvement extended across various sports, including basketball, football, swimming, track, softball, and tennis. He also served as athletic director at Lakewood Middle School. During his tenure, LoVullo’s teams captured nine 5A state titles, and he was instrumental in the planning and construction of the CHS tennis complex.
LoVullo’s contributions to tennis were recognized through multiple accolades, including being named the Kansas Coaches Association (KCA) Girls Tennis Coach of the Year twice and Boys Tennis Coach of the Year. He also received the Midwest Section Coach of the Year award.
He has been inducted into several prestigious halls of fame, including the Kansas Tennis Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Kansas Wesleyan Hall of Fame, and the Salina Central Hall of Fame, underscoring his lasting impact on both the local and statewide sports communities.
“We are pleased to honor Jim LoVullo by placing his name on our tennis court,” said Linn Exline, SPS Superintendent. “His passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our students and athletes have left a lasting mark on our community.”
A dedication ceremony is expected to take place during the 2024-2025 school year, with further details to be announced as plans are finalized.
