The Saline County Jail experienced a temporary increase in its inmate population over the weekend, with numbers rising from 173 on April 4 to peaks of 200 on April 5 and 210 on April 6, before returning to normal levels today.
When contacted by Salina311 for comment on the fluctuation, Operations Captain Jim Hughes of the Saline County Sheriff's Office explained that the increase was planned and temporary.
"Dickinson County had water issues repaired over the weekend and their jail needed to be vacant during the work. Sheriff Soldan agreed to assist by letting them house their inmates in our jail during the time. This was pre-arranged and all went smooth," Hughes stated in his response.
The jail population decreased to 208 on April 7 and returned to its standard level of 173 inmates by April 8, indicating the Dickinson County inmates have been transferred back to their facility following completion of the repairs.
