Suspect at Large after 85 MPH Pursuit in Central Salina
An overnight pursuit in central Salina has the suspect still at large.
Sgt Tonniges says that on Tuesday, August 15, at 4:55 am, an officer was on patrol in the 1200 block of W Walnut. The officer got behind a 2007 Saturn Sky, and suspected that the driver had possible warrants. The driver took off without the officer activating lights, traveling eastbound on Walnut. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued at speeds up to 85 mph. When the driver ran a stop sign at the intersection of Walnut and College, the officer terminated the pursuit.
A short time later, another officer in the area located the vehicle, reportedly in the front yard of a residence in the 200 block of S 10. The vehicle was unoccupied, and it appeared the driver had attempted to turn south but couldn't make the turn due to speed, jumped the curb and went up into the yard.
The vehicle had heavy front-end damage, along with a lot of skid. The suspect was not located, but officers allegedly located a meth pipe in the vehicle.
