The Salina Police Department recently played host to the De-escalation Train-the-Trainer course, facilitated by Blue Shield Tactical. This invaluable training opportunity was made possible through a generous grant from San Houston State University's De-escalation Training Center. The course drew participation from four SPD officers, along with officers from various locations across the state.
The primary objective of the program is to equip officers with the necessary skills to instruct their peers in de-escalation tactics and techniques. The ultimate aim is to enhance the ability of law enforcement personnel to achieve voluntary compliance through non-contact skills. Nationally, statistics indicate that merely 3% of police contacts necessitate the use of "force" during interactions. The SPD is confident that by imparting these crucial skills, the department can further improve its approach to handling diverse situations.
