South Hosts Six-Team Meet

Both Salina South and Salina Central swim teams hosted a multi-division meet on Tuesday at the Salina pool, with the South High Cougars finishing fourth in their division with 266 points in a meet won by Derby High School (601).

The Cougars opened with a strong showing in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Carter Malbrough, Nicolis Adams, Sean Iselin, and Cooper Hutton took fourth place with a time of 2:00.74.

Sean Iselin led individual performances for South, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.79). Nicolis Adams added a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.33), while Damon McDonald earned points in the 50-yard freestyle, tying for eighth place (27.59).

In diving, Damon McDonald scored valuable points for the Cougars with a third-place finish, scoring 154.65 points.

The distance events saw Cooper Hutton place seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:49.91.

Matthew Whelchel of Southeast of Saline continued his impressive season by winning the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.32).

Derby dominated the overall competition with 601 points, followed by McPherson (423) and Andover Central (328). The Cougars' 266 points put them ahead of both Southeast of Saline (36) and Centre (14).

The meet represented a strong showing for local swimming, with both Salina schools competing well against larger programs from around the region.
