UPDATE: Sheriff Soldan says that the 2006 Dodge Magnum has been located at apartments at 2130 E Crawford. The vehicle was intact, locked up with keys inside. Persons of interest have been developed that law enforcement is attempting to locate.
A vehicle has been reported stolen in a string of events, including the SPD's new Flock system possibly catching sight of it.
Sheriff Soldan says that on April 21 at 3 am, a blue 2006 Dodge Magnum had three occupants during a traffic stop. The vehicle, worth $5,000, is a 4-door hatchback, with KS tag 521 PNL. Two of the occupants were arrested at the time, one of which being the son of the owner of the vehicle, 50-year-old Jennie Bettes of Hays. A third person, who was not arrested, was left with the keys and the vehicle. Later, the vehicle could not be found, and it was reported as stolen as of Monday, April 24 at 12:26 pm. The vehicle was put into NCIC, as the person last known to have possession of it allegedly will not answer their phone and cannot be found.
Captain Forrester says that an SPD officer was looking for the vehicle within the Flock system, and discovered that it had possibly been seen in the area of Crawford and Centennial throughout the day on Monday, April 24. An officer patrolling this area was able to get behind the possible vehicle at Viemont and Beverly, and conduct a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Beverly. As the vehicle was reported stolen, officers exited their vehicle and began giving commands to the driver to exit the vehicle. It was at this point that the driver allegedly took off southbound on Beverly, and went westbound on Crawford, reaching speeds of 100 mph. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop at Crawford and K-140 before continuing westbound on K-140. It then turned northbound on Hohneck before the pursuit was teminated due to the officer losing sight of the vehicle because of dust being kicked up.
