Saline County Rural Fire District #2 has been approved to purchase a new grass squad through the Rural Fire ARPA Grant program, a decision made at the County Commission meeting on June 18, 2024.
The new grass squad will replace an older vehicle in their fleet. After working for a year on the replacement project and preparing detailed specifications for the new squad, bids were received from Hays Fire, Weis Fire and Safety, and Danko Fire.
Weis Fire and Safety submitted the lowest bid at $163,557, which was unanimously recommended by the Board of Trustees. The ARPA grant provided $95,000 for the purchase, leaving a balance of $68,557, which will be covered by a $20,000 line item in the department's budget and additional funds from the Special Equipment account.
The specifications for the new grass squad included options such as an in-cab turret nozzle position display, Conti-Terra HD3 tires, powder coat rims, a customer-supplied front monitor, a customer-supplied pump, and front ground sweep nozzles.
