At their December 31st meeting, the Saline County Board of Commissioners approved a new resolution regarding public official bonds. Deputy County Administrator Hannah Bett presented the resolution, which moves the county's bonds from Travelers to their current insurance provider, KCAMP.
The resolution sets minimum bond amounts for elected and appointed offices in the county. Most positions will maintain the minimum requirements set by state statute. However, the County Treasurer's position will have a higher bond amount than the state minimum. Additionally, the resolution adds a bond for the County Appraiser position, which was not previously bonded.
Stambaugh explained that KCAMP requires this resolution to be adopted by the County Commission when bond amounts differ from state minimums. She also noted that unlike the previous arrangement with Travelers, the KCAMP bonds are tied to positions rather than individuals. This means no renewals will be necessary when new officials take office.
The total annual fee for all bonds held by KCAMP will be $386, to be paid through the insurance line item in the general fund.
Commissioners asked about the renewal process and duration of the bonds before unanimously approving the resolution, designated as RFA 2024-179.
This change in bonding arrangements comes as part of the county's transition to KCAMP as their insurance provider.
