In a bid to modernize and accommodate the expanding fleet, Rural Fire District 1 is embarking on a significant station upgrade project. Following the successful enhancement of the Kipp Station in 2018, which saw architectural designs by Bieberly Architect, the district now sets its sights on the Carlton and Gypsum stations. The proposed blueprint for the Carlton station aligns with the layout of the Kipp station, while the Gypsum station is slated for additional bays and a training room.
In a significant move for Saline County, an agreement has been forged between the Saline County Board of Commissioners and Bieberly Architects, for the design and construction administration services of the two fire stations in Gypsum and Carlton.
The ambitious project, initiated by Rural Fire District 1, aims to modernize and expand facilities to meet the demands of a growing fleet. The Gypsum station, spanning 8,600 square feet and estimated at $559,000, will house 3.5 truck bays, meeting rooms, and support spaces on a 14,000 square foot property. The Carlton station, at 4,000 square feet and an estimated cost of $200,000, will feature four truck bays with toilet facilities on a 16,250 square foot property.
This strategic development marks a crucial step toward enhancing the county's firefighting infrastructure. The total estimated cost for the architect's services throughout the entire project is $53,130, with funding drawn from Capital Outlay Funds and special equipment funds. The County Commission approved this vision with a 5-0 vote.
