Mike Durall, a columnist for Salina 311, has just published his latest book. It’s titled How Salina Works: Behind the Scenes of a Kansas Town. In the introduction, Durall says, “I like to write about places I’ve never seen before and don’t know anything about.”
He suspects that people also like to read about places they’ve never seen before and don’t know anything about.
The book contains 17 chapters. Examples include a chapter about the Salina Sirens Women’s Roller Derby team, and a guy who raises bucking bulls for the rodeo. Other chapters include the county jail, the emergency room at the hospital, the zoo, the fire department, and the largely unknown world of industrial scales.
This book would be an ideal gift for family, friends, colleagues, and volunteer boards at both nonprofit and private sector organizations.
