A Message from the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce
As the holiday season approaches, and as everyday needs continue year-round, the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to highlight the tremendous value of shopping local. Supporting small and locally owned businesses is more than a transaction—it’s an investment in the strength, identity, and long-term vitality of our community.
Local businesses are the backbone of Salina’s economy. For every dollar spent locally, a significantly larger share remains in our region, supporting jobs, funding public services, and helping our business community grow. That reinvestment creates a powerful ripple effect: local shops hire local residents, partner with nearby suppliers, and contribute to everything from community events to youth programs. When Salinans shop local, the entire region benefits.
Beyond the economic impact, local businesses deliver unmatched quality and value. Many of Salina’s stores and service providers are family-owned or long-standing establishments that take pride in their craft and care deeply about the customers they serve. Whether it’s a handcrafted gift, expert advice from someone who knows you personally, or a service tailored to your needs, local businesses offer a level of connection and authenticity that is hard to find anywhere else.
Shopping local also preserves what makes Salina unique. Our boutiques, specialty shops, restaurants, artisans, and service providers define the character of our community. They create places to gather, celebrate, and build relationships—elements that make Salina not just a place to live, but a place to belong.
To make supporting local even easier, the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce offers Smoky Hill Silver gift certificates. These certificates are available in $10 and $25 increments and are accepted by many Chamber-member businesses. To see the list of participating businesses, visit www.salinakansas.org/smoky-hill-silver.html or call 785-827-9301. Smoky Hill Silver can be purchased by phone or in person at 120 W. Ash during regular business hours (9–5, Monday through Thursday, and 9–1 on Friday).
This season—and throughout the year—we encourage everyone to think local first. Choosing to shop in Salina strengthens our economy, enriches our community, and ensures the businesses we rely on continue to thrive.
Shop local. Support local. Be local.
