By comparison, July's citation activity remained relatively consistent, with most days recording between 4 and 10 citations. July's highest single-day count was 10 citations on July 8, significantly lower than August's peak activity.
When contacted about the increased enforcement activity, the Salina Police Department explained that "last month encompassed not only S.T.E.P enforcement but also School Zone enforcement with the start of school. So both of those combined accounts for the numbers."
S.T.E.P (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) represents targeted traffic enforcement efforts, while school zone enforcement typically increases when academic sessions begin to ensure student safety in designated school areas.
The traffic citation statistics are part of Salina311's broader Community Analytics program tracking important metrics in Salina.
