In an effort to support responsible waste disposal and community cleanup efforts, the City of Salina will hold a Free Landfill Day on Saturday, April 26, allowing Saline County residents to dispose of household trash at no cost.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salina Municipal Solid Waste Landfill, located at 4292 S. Burma Rd. Residents must present a vehicle with a Saline County license plate to qualify for free entry. Vehicles from outside the county will be subject to the landfill’s standard tipping fees.
While the day is designed to accommodate residential users, commercial waste haulers will be granted priority access and charged according to standard commercial rates.
City officials are encouraging all participants to exercise caution, follow signage and staff instructions, and expect potential delays due to high turnout. No entry will be allowed after 2 p.m., regardless of whether vehicles are waiting in line.
Certain items will be prohibited, including automobiles, batteries, corrosive or flammable waste, hazardous materials, liquid waste (such as paint), machinery, and vehicle wreckage. Removal of any landfill property, including other customers’ waste, is strictly prohibited.
Items such as construction debris, Freon-containing appliances (with certified Freon removal), tires, boats, trailers, and special waste (with KDHE permit) will be accepted, but subject to regular tipping fees. The landfill will resume regular hours and operations on Monday, April 28.
