Cougars go 3-0 to improve season record to 16-9
Salina South volleyball made the trip to Hays worthwhile Thursday night, sweeping all three opponents at the triangular to continue their strong season.
The Cougars defeated both Abilene and Hays High in hard-fought three-set matches before dispatching Liberal in straight sets. The perfect 3-0 evening improved South's overall record to 16-9 on the season.
Paityn Fritz led the offensive charge with a dominant 33 kills and added 4 aces from the service line. Setter Sophie Daily distributed 36 assists while matching Fritz with 4 aces of her own.
Senior Brylee Moss anchored the defensive effort with a remarkable 49 digs and 50 good serve receive attempts, providing consistent stability in the back row throughout the long evening.
At the net, Isabelle Maxton controlled the blocking game with 7 solo blocks and 4 block assists, disrupting opponents' attacks all night.
Elysse Wisker contributed 21 kills from the outside hitter position, while Taaliyah Koster and Delaney Harris each added 11 kills in the balanced offensive attack. Harris also made her mark defensively with 23 digs, showcasing her versatility.
The team effort that defined Thursday's success will be put to the test when the Cougars travel to Derby on Tuesday, October 7th.
South's final home event of the season will come on Saturday, October 11th, when they host McPherson's varsity volleyball tournament in the Salina South facilities.
With momentum building and the postseason approaching, the Cougars are rounding into form at the right time.
