The Salina Public Library is planning a substantial expansion of its outreach and community-engagement efforts in 2026, according to the Library’s newly released annual plan. The initiatives include broader off-site programming, increased volunteer involvement, new advisory groups, and renewed efforts to reach underserved or disconnected audiences.
One major component of the plan is the continued development of the VolunTEEN program, which provides structured opportunities for teens to support library operations and outreach. The program is expected to grow in 2026, with increased training, an expanded application process, and integration into large-scale events and youth programming.
The library will also broaden its community presence outside the building, including participation in local fairs, neighborhood events, school partnerships, and activities tied to the Summer at the Library program. Staff will focus on offering roving assistance, distributing materials in multiple locations, and improving access for residents who may not visit the main facility regularly.
Another key element of the 2026 plan is strengthening collaboration with area nonprofits and civic groups through the Community Advisory Committee. The committee will help identify gaps in local services, recommend resource needs, and support the library’s role as a centralized information hub.
In addition, librarians will develop updated resource binders for staff, create streamlined referral systems, and expand digital tools that assist patrons in navigating social-service networks.
Library leadership notes that these outreach improvements aim to increase accessibility, deepen partnerships, and ensure that library services reach residents across all ages and neighborhoods.
