The Salina Police Department announced it will participate in a statewide traffic enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring safer holiday travel during the Thanksgiving period.
From November 21-30, local officers will join the Kansas Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies across the state in the "Thanksgiving Safe Arrival" campaign. While officers will enforce all traffic laws, special emphasis will be placed on occupant protection regulations, including seat belt usage.
"Buckling up saves lives, and we want to make sure everyone makes it to their holiday destinations safely," said the Salina Police Department in a statement. "We're encouraging all Kansans to make occupant protection a priority, whether they're traveling across town or across the state."
The campaign combines enhanced enforcement with public education efforts to stress the importance of seat belt use as the most effective defense against serious injury or death in the event of a crash.
Law enforcement officials remind drivers and passengers that seat belt use is required by law on every trip, regardless of distance. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities during the heavily traveled holiday period.
