The Salina Police Department announced Sunday evening that it has canceled its Emergency Accident Reporting Plan, returning to normal procedures for handling motor vehicle accidents across the city.
The special reporting protocol, which had been in place since Tuesday night due to hazardous winter weather conditions, is no longer necessary as conditions have improved.
Under normal procedures, all accidents should now be reported directly to the police department for immediate response, rather than using the self-reporting system that was temporarily in place.
The emergency plan had allowed drivers involved in minor accidents to exchange information and file reports within 48 hours, rather than waiting for an officer to respond to the scene.
