On Thursday, August 24, officers were sent to Hanks Taver, 116 Broadway. It was reported that a male subject, identified as 38-year-old Tharen Sparke of Salina, was kicked out of the bar. Sparke allegedly went to his vehicle and retrieved a rifle, displaying it at several patrons in the parking lot. He then left the bar in a vehicle, but not before patrons were able to get a license plate number.
Officers went to Sparke's house in the 200 block of E Kirwin. He was reportedly found exiting his vehicle. Officers made contact with him in his front yard. Sparke was allegedly non-compliant, not following officer's commands. Multiple officers were on scene, including a KHP Trooper, who effectively deployed a taser. Sparke was arrested.
Officers then searched the vehicle, and allegedly found an AR-15 Rifle loaded with a 30-round magazine, as well as a round in the chamber. Sparke's requested charges include:
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Firearm while Under the Influence
- Interference with Law Enforcement
- DUI
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with no Ignition Interlock Device
