The Salina Municipal Solid Waste Landfill has reopened and resumed normal operations after being temporarily closed due to a power outage caused by lightning during a thunderstorm on September 17, 2024.
The outage affected the landfill's computer systems and scale house, forcing a temporary suspension of services. However, city staff worked swiftly to resolve the issue, and operations have now returned to normal.
The City of Salina expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during the closure and thanked the landfill staff for their prompt efforts in restoring the systems. The landfill is now fully operational and accepting waste as usual.
