Lauren Driscoll, Director of Community and Development Services for the City of Salina, has been elected President-Elect of the American Planning Association (APA), a national organization representing nearly 40,000 professional planners.
Driscoll has led Salina's Community and Development Services department since 2017, overseeing planning, housing, building services, property maintenance, and civil rights enforcement. During her tenure, the city has added more than 1,200 new housing units over four years and attracted industrial projects including facilities for Schwan's and Kubota. The department has also worked on downtown development initiatives.
"I am deeply honored by this opportunity," Driscoll said. "My election as APA President-Elect reflects not only my work, but also the innovation and dedication of our community here in Salina. I am proud to represent Salina on a national stage and to share the lessons we have learned about building a vibrant and thriving community."
Driscoll is currently serving her second term on the APA Board of Directors, where she has held the position of Treasurer. She has also been involved with the Kansas Chapter of APA. In her work with the organization, she has focused on ensuring rural communities have access to planning resources and best practices comparable to those available in urban areas.
As President-Elect, Driscoll will contribute to the association's strategic planning and support planners working on issues nationwide. She will assume the APA presidency in 2027 while continuing in her current role with Salina.
"The City of Salina is fortunate to have Lauren on our team," said City Manager Jacob Wood. "Her election to this distinguished role is a testament to her hard work, professionalism, and dedication to public service and the planning profession. Lauren's leadership has been central to Salina's recent accomplishments. Her leadership has strengthened our community, and now she will help shape the future of planning across the nation."
