Salina Commissioners Condemn 254 North Penn Avenue Property, Ordering Repair or Demolition
During the August 12, 2024, meeting, the Salina City Commission voted to condemn the property at 254 North Penn Avenue, declaring it a dangerous structure and ordering its repair or demolition. The decision was based on a presentation by Sean Furbeck, the city’s dangerous structure specialist, who outlined the severe structural damage caused by a fire on February 27, 2024.
The property was found to meet five of the 11 criteria for condemnation under the Salina Municipal Code, including significant structural instability and fire damage. The owners, lacking insurance and financial resources, were unable to make the necessary repairs.
The commission's decision requires that the property be brought up to safety standards or be demolished. If the owners do not comply, the city will carry out the demolition, with costs assessed against the property as a special tax.
