The Salina City Commission will convene at 2:30 p.m. today for a study session focusing on water and wastewater rates, general fund expenditures, and capital improvement projects, followed by their regular meeting.
Infrastructure Investments Take Center Stage
Commissioners will consider several significant infrastructure expenditures during today's session. The agenda includes approval of a $506,772 engineering contract with WSP USA, Inc. for road improvements on Magnolia Road from Centennial Road to 1000 feet west of Virginia Drive. Additionally, the commission will review a $420,425 contract with Kaw Valley Engineering for designing a roundabout at the intersection of 9th Street and Water Well Road.
Facility Improvements and Trail Development
The commission will also address a $51,563.87 purchase order for HVAC replacements at the Salina Art Center through Wishon Heating and Air. Related to the city's ongoing trail development, commissioners will consider an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad to perform work on railroad right-of-way for pedestrian crossings at Belmont Boulevard and Magnolia Road as part of the Magnolia Trail project.
Opioid Settlement Fund Discussion
One of the more significant policy discussions will center on how to spend funds received from opioid settlement agreements. The commission will review a plan for expenditure of these settlement funds, though specific details of the proposal have not been made public ahead of the meeting.
Routine Business
The consent agenda includes approval of minutes from the June 23 regular meeting and July 2 special meeting. The session will begin with the standard pledge of allegiance and moment of silence, followed by public hearings and conclude with a citizens forum for public comment.
