Salina City Commission Holds Organizational Meeting, Elects New Mayor

The Salina City Commission held its organizational meeting on January 13, 2025, during which a new mayor was elected.

The meeting began with the outgoing mayor, Bill Longbine, presiding over regular business before recessing into the organizational portion.

City Clerk Nikki Gooding called the organizational meeting to order and conducted roll call. Nominations were then opened for the position of mayor and chairman of the Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Lenkiewicz was nominated for the role, and with no further nominations, a vote was taken.

The commission unanimously elected Commissioner Lenkiewicz as the new mayor of Salina.

Following the mayoral election, nominations were accepted for the position of acting mayor and vice chairman of the Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Hoppock was nominated and subsequently elected to this role, also by unanimous vote.

After the elections, the newly elected Mayor Lenkiewicz took over the meeting. His first official act was to present outgoing Mayor Longbine with a plaque of appreciation for his service from January 8, 2024, to January 13, 2025.

Mayor Lenkiewicz then made brief remarks, reflecting on his three years of service as a commissioner and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve. He acknowledged the professionalism of the current commission and the value of experienced commissioners. Lenkiewicz also highlighted the collaborative effort of all city departments and employees in running the city.

The organizational meeting concluded with the adjournment of the commission.
