Mr. Augustine, a local businessman, initiated the amendment request, citing the impact on his self-storage project. He proposed aligning with Salina Municipal Code thresholds (7,500 square feet) rather than stricter international standards. The Building Advisory Board reviewed and unanimously recommended this amendment, regarding the distinct operational characteristics of self-storage units compared to traditional mercantile or warehouse settings.
