On March 24th, Salina Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 1600 block of West Republic Avenue. The incident unfolded around 1:30 am when a 32-year-old Salina man reported being followed by a truck while driving home at 1:20 am.
Later identified as Anthony Nava, 22, the driver of the truck, a Chevy Silverado, pursued the victim to a nearby trailer court. Nava confronted the victim, while the victim attempted to drive away. The situation escalated as Nava, armed with a handgun, allegedly fired multiple shots in the victim's direction. A witness observed the Chevy Silverado fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.
Police discovered shell casings at the location and later located Nava's truck in the 500 block of Saturn Avenue, finding additional shell casings further linking him to the incident. The gun was a 9mm Glock and was believed to have been fired 4-8 times; however, no damage was made to the victim or his property. The gun was later located in a ditch on the north side of the 1600 block of West Republic Avenue.
Upon questioning, Nava admitted to following the victim due to a road rage encounter, saying he was "cut-off" by the victim. He now faces requested charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm.
