At approximately 4:30 PM reports came in of a fire alarm going off in an apartment building in the 100 block of south 5th.
There are reports of a fire in an apartment and smoke in additional apartments in the building. SFD is on scene extinguishing the fire and evaluating the scene.
There are reports of heat radiating from the walls and they may need to pull the ceiling down to evaluate. SFD is going to the roof to see if they can find the source of the heat. Black smoke is coming from vents inside the apartment building and several hot spots have been found.
There are no reports of injuries but there is information coming forward from the SFD to advise the Red Cross that at least three of the eight apartments will not be inhabitable tonight and that multiple families will be displaced.
Update 9:00 PM: The Salina Fire Department has advised that the fire that took place at approximately 4:30 PM this afternoon is under investigation. The Salina Fire Department has cleared the apartment building and deemed it inhabitable, ultimately no families were displaced.
